Lowrie, head of the IX US Corps Civil Affairs, delivers speech and presents package of food to the County Chief of Ponchon, Chae Min Suk. Lowrie presents rations to the children. Civil Affairs truck loaded with rations. Note: This is the arrival of first Eisenhower food packages for people of Ponchon and surrounding country. -- Senator William F. Knowland (Rep.-Calif.) and Maxwell D. Taylor are greeted at the 40th Div airstrip by Maj Gen Ridgely Gaither (?) and Maj Gen Thomas F. Hickey. Ridgely Gaither (Feb. 23, 1903- Oct. 26, 1992) was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He received his commission in the infantry in 1924, and advanced through ranks to brigadier general in November 1943. He was Commander in Chief of the U.S. Caribbean Command from 1958 to 1961, then commanding general of the Second U.S. Army from August 1960 to April 1962. Thomas F. Hickey (April 1, 1898-Nov. 18, 1983) was born in South Boston, Mass. He received his commission in the infantry in 1917.
